Lesley M. Butler Since joining the Department of Public Health Sciences in July 2003, I have initiated projects in the area of cancer epidemiology, and specifically in the study of diet and gene-environment joint effects in relation to cancer. Since April 2006 with funding from UCD’s NIH-funded BIRCWH Program, I have begun developing projects to investigate inflammation and dietary factors that modify chronic systemic inflammation in relation to mammographic density, a strong breast cancer risk factor. In the future, I plan to further this research by studying how individual genetic susceptibility plays a role in inflammation-cancer pathway.
